Questions
Frequently asked.
What does hexIT do?
hexIT calculates the true hex value of a color after you apply opacity and saturation over a background. The color you see on screen at reduced opacity is a blend, not the hex you typed. hexIT does the blend math and gives you the exact hex and RGB to use in your other apps.
Why doesn't my color match when I move it between apps?
When a color sits at less than full opacity, the pixels are a mix of your color and whatever is behind it. Copy the original hex into another app at full opacity and it looks different. hexIT returns the flattened value, so the color matches what you actually saw.
How is this different from a normal color picker?
A picker reads or sets a single value. hexIT computes the result of opacity and saturation changes over a chosen background, then hands you that exact value. It is built for matching a real, on-screen color across tools.
Which apps does it work with?
Any app with a hex or RGB color field. That covers design tools, PDF markup, office suites, and CAD. See the supported apps list for examples.
How do I install it?
Open hexIT in Chrome or Edge on a desktop, then click the install icon in the address bar or the Install button inside hexIT. It installs to your Start menu and taskbar. Full steps are on the Open hexIT page.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the first load, hexIT runs with no internet connection. Your colors and settings stay on your computer.
Where is my data stored?
On your own device, inside your browser. Your colors, pots, libraries, and settings are never sent to us or anyone else. There is no account and no tracking. Read the full privacy notice.
Can I move my colors to another computer?
Yes. Save a .hexIT backup file and restore it on another machine or browser. Your pots and libraries come with it.
What is the difference between hexIT and hexIT Pro?
hexIT covers the calculator, eyedropper, quick pots, and exact output. hexIT Pro adds the Color Library, where you organize colors into named sections by project or client and export them to CSV or TSV. See pricing.
How much does it cost?
hexIT is $7.99 and hexIT Pro is $10.99, both one-time. No subscription. It is free for the team while hexIT is in beta.
What browsers are supported?
Desktop install works in Chrome and Edge on Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS. Other browsers can use hexIT in the browser, but cannot install it as a desktop app.
